What is a Chiropractic Adjustment?

Chiropractic Adjustments, also known as Chiropractic Manipulations, are one option our doctors use to mobilize joints of the spine or extremities that have restricted motion. This may involve a short, quick thrust, a drop piece on our Chiropractic Bench, or a tool assisted impulse. The ‘pops’ or ‘cracks’ that may come with a chiropractic adjustment are gases being released from the joint capsule.

Why should I get adjusted by a chiropractor when I can ‘self-adjust’ my joints?

If you are able to ‘crack’ or ‘pop’ some of your own joints, those joints are hypermobile. In other words, they move too much. The joints adjacent to the hypermobile joints are likely restricted and the actual source of discomfort. By having your joints evaluated and treated by a professional, you can be sure therapy is being directed exactly where you need it.

Why should I try chiropractic care again? I have been adjusted in the past, but it did not resolve my complaint?

Chiropractic Adjustments are just one tool we use as part of a care plan. They are rarely all a patient needs, however. When adjustments are combined with active care, such as the McKenzie Method , Functional Rehabilitation, and Graston Technique, they quicken the rehabilitation process. Our goal for every patient is to have their complaint resolved within six visits so that we can work on preventing it from coming back. Prevention may involve Functional Nutrition, Functional Movement, or Strength and Conditioning.
