What is the SFMA?

The Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA) is a clinical assessment for those who experience pain. It is a diagnostic system based on 7 movements that we use to find and address dysfunctional movement throughout your body, whether it is painful or not. Instead of only focusing on the source of your pain, we use the SFMA to find what could be causing it.

Why SFMA?

SFMA is a great option for anyone who feels like they have tried everything for recurring pains, or those who are curious about what could have led them to become injured in the first place.

Is the SFMA a treatment?

No, it is not. It is a diagnostic assessment based on the joint-by-joint concept. Mobile joints and stable joints alternate throughout the body. For example, your Ankle should be mobile, your knee stable, your hip mobile, your pelvis and lower back stable, and so on. If your ankle does not bend forward well, your lower back may be picking up the slack every time you pick something up from the floor.
