What is Cupping Therapy?

Cupping Therapy is a technique used by Chiropractors, Massage Therapists, Physical Therapists and many other healthcare practitioners. This technique is done by creating a suction on your skin with silicone or plastic ‘cups’. The local suction brings blood and other fluid into the affected muscle and tissue which allows for a deeper release of tension, promotes cell repair, and can aid in other regeneration. The ‘pulling’ affect that cupping has creates space for nerves to stop being compressed which aids in healing and pain relief as well. Cupping can be used in all areas of the body depending on your needs.

Does Cupping Hurt?

Like most manipulative muscle treatments, there is a chance for some discomfort during and potential soreness after treatment. The act of bringing attention to a very specific area using suction creates a bruise-like reaction during the healing process, this is normal and expected for Cupping Therapy. You may see circular ‘bruises’ and feel tenderness where the cups were used that may last for a few days.
